Copycat is a narrative driven indie game which dives deep into themes of abandonment, family and finding a sense of belonging. You play as Dawn, a shelter cat who’s convinced she’s meant to be wild and free. Whereas she’s skeptical of humans and has no interest in being adopted again. But everything changes when she meets Olive, an elderly Aussie mourning the loss of her longtime pet. As Dawn and Olive grow closer so they form an unbreakable bond, healing each other’s broken hearts.

The game really pulls at your emotions, especially when Olive falls ill, and a stray copycat takes Dawn’s place in the home. Forced back onto the streets, Dawn has to navigate alleyways, fences, and rooftops, learning what “home” really means. However the game’s pacing lets you soak in every emotional moment from love to loneliness and everything in between.

The visuals are colorful and beautiful but the story doesn’t shy away from darker themes like trauma and letting go. It’s fully voice-acted, with hours of dialogue and an original soundtrack by Daniel Bunting that sets the perfect tone. The game is all about feeling if you have ever experienced loss or tough times because the game reminds you that you’re not alone.

It touches on some heavy topics but it is all about the journey of healing. Play at your own pace, take breaks when you need, and know that there’s always hope, even when things seem tough. This game is not just about the journey of a cat but it is about finding your place, whether you’re human or feline.
