As the Germans, your job is to hold the front for as long as possible. Every week you hold out improves the chances for the Reich’s survival. As the Allies, you need to use your American, Canadian, British, and French forces to secure a foothold, break out from Normandy, and push towards Paris to potentially end the war by Christmas.
The game lets you recreate the different phases of the Normandy battle, either through a full campaign or shorter scenarios:
Bocage, focuses on the tough fighting in the Normandy bocage from June 30 to the end of August, lasting 22 turns of 3 days each.
Race for Cherbourg, the need to capture the port of Cherbourg between June 6 and June 26, lasting 7 turns. Operation Cobra, covers the breakout operation led by Patton and Bradley from July 2 to August 18, lasting 15 turns.
As well as both sides are playable and enjoyable once you understand their strengths and weaknesses. While you’ll have detailed scenario info sheets to help you get started.
As the Germans, you have strong troops and great defensive positions thanks to Normandy’s tough terrain. You’ll have moments of local superiority where you can really challenge the Allies. Reinforcements and numbers are on your side unless the Germans use the terrain and weather to their advantage. Keep an eye on the weather (which can mess with air support) and supply (crucial for the Allies).
